BUTTE – The cycle of late-day thunderstorms is never-ending for SW Montana. Storms are possible Wednesday afternoon and evening but should be isolated with only a couple of good storms.
Thursday and Friday afternoon to early evening hours will be primed again for additional storms that should be more widespread compared to Wednesday.
Regardless, all storms will continue to produce frequent lightning and strong erratic surface winds. Some storms could be dry while others could be wet. The daily cycle of thunderstorms will keep area fire danger very high and new fire starts are possible.
The above on-demand STORMTracker video forecast will walk you through the latest high-resolution forecast model and show you the timing, location, and duration of possible thunderstorms Wednesday and Thursday with Chief Meteorologist Mike Heard.
FIRE WEATHER WARNING
The National Weather Service has once again issued a Fire Weather Warning (Red Flag Warning) for SW Montana through 9 pm Wednesday.
The combination of lower humidity, isolated thunderstorms, frequent lightning, and gusty winds will increase fire danger and could produce new fire starts for SW Montana.
There will likely be additional Red Flag Warnings issued for Thursday and Friday as more storms are likely.
